Because it’s so much easier to trust our thinking mind, our outward seeking mind, we have to hear this teaching over and over again. We have to be turned back toward ourselves over and over again. We have to develop our own capacity to take the backward step into our zazen, our wisdom, over and over again. In doing this, we find everything is in its place. Nothing is lost, nothing is missing.

The Blue Cliff Record or Hekiganroku is a collection of one hundred koans originally compiled in China by Zen Master Xuedou during the Song dynasty (960–1279 C.E.) and later commented on by Zen Master Yuan Wu.
